[H-GEN] recommend a service for restoring files from a wiped hard drive?

+1 to the testdisk suite - I used photorec from testdisk to recover the
majority of my photos from a disk with a very badly damaged first few
sectors. Despite its name, photorec knows about a lot more file formats
than photos.
I usually work with photorec by taking an image copy of the entire disk
with dd - then I can do destructive things without fear of breaking it
for a data recovery specialist.
