[H-GEN] recommend a service for restoring files from a wiped hard drive?

What Paul said: first thing to do is make a copy and work with it, that way
you can always start all over again if something goes wrong.

There's also ddrescue and dd-rescue (I think). Sometimes one will work
better than another (this applies to all of them).
If you take an image (use the dd command for this) you can make multiple
copies and try them all if you want.
