If you have an old Android phone, just install Mythmote or one of its 
clones. Does the job nicely over wifi.

Alternatively, if you have the IR infrastructure anyway, you could buy 
any nice programmable remote. Or nab another old one from an old DVD 
player or something - the IR decoding is configured with a txt file...
