All of them should be "compatible". They are just regular HDs formatted
with some Win FS.
If you are NEVER sharing them with Windows/OSX then you can reformat them
with any
of the Linux file systems (ext3/ext4/whatever).
If all you want is a single TB then I would recommend one of the 2.5" USB3
babies.
If you don't have any USB3 ports now they will work happily on USB2. Once
you move
to USB3 they will fly. A USB3 PCI express card for a desktop/tower is only
$20.
I have a couple of the "Western Digital Elements Portable 1TB 2.5 HDD
USB3" that
you
will find on the Umart site for $130. Never had a problem with them. They
self-power on
any USB2 or 3 port.
One thing to watch is the device end of the supplied cable. The PC end is
always a standard
USB3 'A' connector (looks like and works in USB2, but has extra contacts).
The WD drive
(and the Seagate one) have a modified MicroUSB connector at the other end.
One of these...

I find these the best as the wider section is a standard USB2 MicroUSB
connector and you
can use the older standard USB2 cables to connect the device at USB2 speeds.
