[H-GEN] RAID controllers on MoBos

I need to construct a new file server for my home office.
It has been a while since I have done any PC building so
I've lost touch with the gentle art of component selection.
My budget is about 2.0 to 2.5k
Size wise, I'm thinking 3x320Gb disks in a RAID 5, plus a
single disk for the OS. Not that fussed about mirroring the
OS disk. I would spring for a hot spare in the RAID if the
combined IQ of HUMBUG thought it was wise.
I'm thinking about 2gb of RAM and a mid-range Core Duo
(or equivalent) for the CPU. This box doesn't need to be
blindingly fast, just competent and stable. For the record
it will be running Ubuntu.
My question is motherboard, RAID controller and whether
the RAID controllers on the mobos are any good for the
sort of spec above? I threw a dart at the GameDude
catalog and came up with the Asus P5B-E Plus.
Are boards like this any good under Linux?
