It will be getting power from the keyboard (normal whatever is on
computer 1). Even powered ones don't always provide the mouse
emulation on boot.
The easiest way to rule this out as being your problem is to power the
nix box up with it selected, if you don't get your mouse, then there's
a problem. If you do, then the KVM does support mouse emulation when
not selected.
