Quite correct. This is an office situation with both Windows and
Linux systems on desktops, servers, and laptops.

Couldn't agree more. Before we had DNS up and running in the new
office we temporarily used %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and /etc/hosts files. I have no intention of going back there, it is
just plain too hard.

I am amazed at how difficult it seems for the average windows-weenie
to understand basic things like "put the file attached to this email
into directory <blah>".  Just to add a little more to the context;
most of these "windows-weenies" are tertiary educated professional
computer programmers. :-(
