As far as I am aware, if they are "standard", then they _all_ work
with linux.

All scsi burners will work out of the box.

At the moment the ide/ATAPI drives need to be used with the kernel's
ide-scsi driver to work with cdrecord, but native ide/atapi support
for cdrw devices will be there in the forthcoming 2.6.x kernel.

Whatever suits your tastes and budget will work just fine.  I have
never heard of a cdrom/dvd burner that didn't work with linux.

Same for atapi DVD drives (you can get dvd/cdrw combos), they all
"just work".
