Since you mentioned me by name (sort of) I think I'd like to offer a
little more in the way of explanation for my response.  I really was
very sorry that I had no good advice for you, and I'm glad to see you
have things up and running again.

I certainly never intended for my remarks to be offensive; rather I
was aiming to be helpful in a tangential sort of way---kind of "sorry,
can't really guess about your real problem, but this is something else
I noticed in your message, and I think you could benefit from this
advice".

Superb.  That last bit is an excellent idea.  I also make a point of
reading nearly every post that goes to this list---I still have a
couple saved that are well over a year old now, which I want to keep
around for when I have a spare day or two.

You certainly shouldn't feel reluctant to ask questions on this list,
provided they're on-topic (this being a Unix group after all) and
particularly if the need is urgent and/or you've looked around at
other sources first.
