Hi All.....I would like to say thanks to all those who took time to give me an
answer to my question re how to get a Graphical Login.....got it up and
running very quickly....
I would like to make a comment on Jason Parker-Burlingtons comment to me about
getting help.....I wasnt offended but amused......we never know the
circumstances of any writer apart from info on the tail of their messages.
I am a 63 year old Amateur Radio operator who stumbled on Linux when i found
that Win95SE would lock up while operating PSK31 on hf radio...its a data
keyboard to keyboard mode using a computer and a hf radio via the
soundcard....
I found a copy of Red Hat 6.2 that i had on a comp mag disc so decided to give
it a try....i was hooked....using a prog written by a guy in Luxemburg i
found that my PSK31 contacts were rock solid and no lock ups.....i have since
upgraded thru RH 7.1 7.3 to 8.0.....and think its the next best thing to
sliced bread HI HI.....
In our local Amateur Radio club there a number of computer gurus BUT they dont
know anything about Linux only the MS variety so not much help there.....
by the way i live in Townsville in sunny North Queensland not in the
sprawling city of Brisbane......i work as a Taxi driver 5 nights a week and
sleep during the day.....not much time to go and talk to any comp gurus....
in fact i havent found anyone in the comp shops who knows much about Linux
...when i mention it they look blank......yes we do have th JCU university
who probably use some Unix but im told most of the comps the students use run
a flavour of MS and the main comps would be Unix servers......havent come
across any help from that direction as yet.....
If i run into a problem i usually try and find the answer myself first.....i
have some books ....then i seach the net.....last of all i try and pick the
humbug brains.......yep its all a learning curve......i usually read all the
humbug postings a there may be something that i can learn hi hi.....
So there are my circumstances and the reason i sometimes pop up a
question.....
Thanks again all
