Not too sure if this is the answer, but I find when services pause like
that, its usually a malconfigured hosts file, or similar dns related
problem,

cheers

|Folks,
|
|This is my third attempt at writing this email, if I miss a little bit
|in my explanation, it's because I've buggered up again....
|But all the practice should make it much quicker to type than the last
|time (without all the fluff)
|
|The problem:
|File opens/file saves/directory listings on shares from our samba
|server occasionally pause for a short time ranging from a couple of
|seconds up to 30 or more. This is often enough to make the windows
|machines crash.
|
|Other network services to the server do not pause, and all client
|machines do not pause at once. The pauses seem unrelated and
|totally random.
|
|The details:
|
|Samba server Version 2.2.3a-12 for Debian (Woody)
|Filesystem /dev/md2 on /home type ext3 (rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro)
| - software raid 1, ext3, mounted with noatime flag
|Kernel 2.4.19 compiled by me, no extra patches
|Forward & reverse dns entries for hosts connecting
|samba config file: http://mutton.humbug.org.au/samba/smb.conf
|log file for client: http://mutton.humbug.org.au/samba/log.patrick
| - snippet of log file follows, just before and after a pause.
|
|Client machines:
|
|Windows XP Home or Win98SE all with latest vendor patches applied.
|
|Solutions or where to head:
|
|I've got no idea, can someone point me in the right direction?
|
