When you simply can't get removable media to work on a machine you can
do an install by netbooting a custom kernel and mounting the contents of
root.bin via nfs.

If I recall correctly you need to rename root.bin to root.gz, gunzip it,
mount it via loop and copy the contents somewhere for exporting via nfs.
this does introduce a problem with loadable modules (if floppies still
wont work) so make sure your kernel has everything you need.
