Same with up2date, which (broadly, but not exactly) fills the niche of 
apt in a debian system. Remember, rpm is to deb as apt is to up2date, 
kinda sorta. People tend to get carried away with "apt is better than 
rpm, Red Hat sucks, debian rules", and forget about that one minor point.

Of course, Red Hat and Debian both suck, gentoo rulez!

As an aside, I actually really, really like FreeBSD. It manages to avoid 
a lot of the mistakes that paleoLinux made, and has a wonderful feeling 
of unixish 'rightness' about it. I wish I had time to play with it more.
