(--) PCI:*(1:0:0) ATI Radeon VE rev 0, Mem @ 0xd0000000/27, 0xdfef0000/16, I/O @ 0x9800/8, BIOS @ 0xdfec0000/17

I think that's an older version than the 9700 though :)

It's useful to note that ATI sponsored the development of the Open
Source Radeon driver, so it is to be expected that the entire family is
well supported. The driver for my VE has blindingly fast 2D support
(faster than nVidia's binary only driver had ...) but the 3D performance
on the card is a little lacklustre - hardware is at fault for that.

There is a DRI driver, a GL module, and support for the dual head
capability, though I can't get my hands on a DVI-I to VGA cable to use
the second head anyway.

When I upgrade, it will be to whatever is the top of the line or near to
it in the Radeon family. ;)
