If it's a P4 Xeon, check for the ht flag in /proc/cpuinfo. If it's 
there, it's hyperthreading-capable. This can be made to work reliably 
with all the 7.3 updates and a bit of TLC.

I'd reccomend using the UP kernel for a production box.
