Someone else here mentioned zimian gnome.

I've had a look at ximian in the past, installing the rpms into the
then "current, standard, updated" redhat distributions.

The result superficially looked ok, but lots of other things broke
badly (eg, desktop settings stuffed up, xauth problems, weird
keyboard config changes, esound problems, etc).

Last time I did this (rh7.1), the result was so broken and
impossible to deal with that I ended up rebuilding the box from
new rather than trying to clean up the mess. I don't want to go
  through that frustration again.

So I don't trust what would happen if I put the current ximian rpm
release into my (updated) rh7.2 box, I'm sure it will cause
heartache.

(Someone mentioned up2date, I don't use that but I can see that
applying updates might become problematic with version and
  dependency issues).

Questions:

Has anyone here installed ximian gnome into rh 7.2 (with updates)?
What, if anything, broke? What problems were there with
dependencies, library versions and so on? Did you like the
 changes?

Where can ximian be obtained (in Australia)? ftp? Order?

I've heard of something called "gnomehide", apparently a "rawhide"
 for a "redhat-compatable" ximian-like gnome release. (I could be
wrong). Anyone know more about this, what it is like, where it can
 be downloaded?

(I'm particularly interested in having a look at Evolution and some
of the ximian/gnome goodies).

Thanks.

Cheers
Tony
