I've had favorable dealings with my current ISP and Linux - it
turned out that my D-Link ADSL modem was dead. The tech support
staff went through rp-ppoe, route, ifconfig and so forth.
I believe the "Windows only" rules of Telstra (and Optus) are
because they don't want to employ support staff who *understand*
what they're doing - they want to hire relatively inexperienced
staff who will read a script and take you through procedures.
"I understand your cable modem is on fire; however, we need
to know the error message Microsoft Windows is displaying."
