Hi Sandra,

I have a work colleague who had a similar situation - Win2k seems to
have fiddled with his linux root fs. His situation was:
- the linux partition is a rootfs ext3 on his second hd (hdb1)
- he installed RH 7.3
- he was using grub
- he previously had a windows partition in the same place
- Win2K SP? (probably 2) I think off our employer's Win2K CD.
- he didn't catch what the new hardware was that win2k found.

Unfortunately whatever win2k did, it screwed up his root ext3 fs badly
(really, really bad, journal corrupted, superblock stuffed etc), and as
this was a fresh install, I suggested that he re-install. His first
symptom was that grub lost its pretty blue background (which it would
have tried to load off his root fs).

He hasn't tried this yet.

It occured to me later that perhaps the RH installer didn't change the
partition type to Linux (82/83) and it may still be thinking it is a
ntfs or vfat partition.

Also, I didn't think to check what Win2K SP he might be running or
particular patches from M$.

Unfortunately this is a first time linux install for him, so he isn't
having a pleasant time.

Could you provide some more details of your situation please. (Was it a
"recycled" partition that had ntfs/vfat prev, is your linux fs stuffed,
what win2k sp/patches)

Regards,

Robert
