Yes, I have not had any problem with printing using GhostScript with maybe
four different printers I have used it with. I can not say that I find the
experience as erotic as Paul seems to find it but that was the whole point
of my original reply to the first enquiry. PS printers are usually not
cheap. Using a cheaper printer and GS seems an eminently acceptable
alternative. PS printers require the PS chip and this usually adds at least
$300 to $400 (for the genuine Adobe version...maybe a spot less for some
clones - eg the Brother or Epson look-alikes) to the original cost of a
printer. JHP noted that Plugged In bought an HP laser printer for around
$700...that would be an 1100 or its successor the 1200 but I suspect that
that printer was not a PS printer. I suspect that the cheapest HP PS printer
is the 6P with a PS chip. That is why I suggested that those on limited
budgets seeking the genuine article could do worse than look at a second
hand Brother 10h (HPLJ 4,PostScript clone) obtainable for less than $100 or
a second hand LJ 4M. I recently saw an LJ 4M (the M indicates Mac suitable
IIRC - ie PS) with 30,000 prints and a Jet Direct network connection sold
for around $250. 30,000 prints is nothing, I have seen these printers
performing well with in excess of 500,000 prints.
