My machine is a Cyrix 6x86 300 (sorry if this makes anyone vomit) and I'm
running Redhat 7 with kernel vmlinuz-2.2.16-22.
This is how I attempted to build my new kernel...
1. made changes thru xconfig then saved and exited.
2. dep && make clean (seemed to work fine)
3. make bzImage
*noted lots of "warnings" like 'cpu data' redefined, 'smp_num_cpus' redefined
etc...
I assume this just relates to the changes I made in xconfig
*then this at the end of the compile log..
make[2]:***[ksyms.o] Error 1
make[2]:Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/kernel
make[1]:***[first rule] Error 2
make[1]:Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/kernel
make:***[_dir_kernel] Error 2
Obviously, that's where I had to stop.
However, I will explain what I would have done next in case there's a problem
there also..
4. make modules
5. make modules_install
6. copy the bzImage and System.map files to /boot
7. depmod -a
8. add new kernel to lilo (but not as default in case it doesn't work)
Thanks,
Matt
