it uses the windows logon username... it should ask you for your unix 
password. personally i like share access control in samba as it allows me 
to specify shares with NO password, and it only asks for a password when u 
want to access somebody's home share.

you'll probably find that the connection refused error is because you don't 
have telnetd installed, or it isn't running. common problem with out of the 
box installations. I understand why it is that way, but I spend all my time 
helping people to install telnetd so I can get in and show them how to use 
their machine remotely.
