I would like to point out at this time... before you go bashing any other
modem brands, I have a webexcel, I use redhat, I have had initial
connection problems where dialup fails first time everytime... but it was
usually rock solid and very rarely dropped a connection ( except when flat
mate decided to pick up the hand set!! )

I can't tell you what my init strings etc were 'cause I'm not capable of
remember such things off the top of my head

oh... I also dialed into UQ so... never fear... a solution *MUST* be at
hand
