Ditto, I've been using a WebExcel for about 3 years (33.6) and I've never
had a problem with it (Linux, BeOS, or Windoze). I work for an ISP as a site
technician and so far the worst modems we've come across are Acers that use
the Rockwell HSF chipset.
All of our POPs use full digital racks and the only way to fix these buggers
is to force them to conect at V34 protocol at a max. speed of 33.6
Of course, if the ISP you worked for used WebExcel modems in their rack then
more fool them. They're a home user modem (built to a price) not a heavy
duty unit built for 24/7 usage. For that (on a budget) I can highly
recommend the Maestro range.
If you really want to diagnose your modem problems and get some good init
strings (for all chipsets) try www.modem-help.net . This is IMHO the best
resource for any modem problems.

Huh? Dont you mean the rockwell chipset (one of the worlds most reliable)?
