Have a look at xhost(1x).  On serra, you can try running "xhost +",
which will disable access control, and allow anyone to play with your
desktop.  Obviously, a more specific command line is preferred :)

Your other option is to switch to ssh.  If properly configured ssh
will set up everything necessary to use X remotely, and encrypt the
connection too.
