There is an RHIDE version for Windows IIRC which I think might be more
advanced than its Linux cousin.
Borland compiler is now a free download but I am not sure about the IDE
whether that is included (try www.inprise.com).
If you are using Mandrake on Linux there is the KDevelop (or is it KDeveloper)
IDE which seems quite interesting and there are a number of other Linux IDE's
eg Wipeout I think, RHIDE and an old friend XWPE which looks just like the old
Borland Turbo C++3.0 interface GUI type.
Earlier I noticed you indicated that you had decided on C and other advice was
to start with C but it is worth looking at the structure of a book called
Who's Affraid of C++ by Steve Heller. The approach of this book is different
to other C++ books. Generally the C++ books start with C commands and dont
really introduce C ++ specific sttuff until well into the book...by which time
you are into the C coding and the OOP stuff starts to cause a few problems as
a new and different paradigm.
In the book above the author gets straight into C++ without starting with C
and introduces classes in the first chapter. I think it might be a better way
to go and that you might be a lot less confused by going straight into C++.
Just a thought but that book is an interesting concept.
