hmmmmmmmmm...... despite what that nice GUI gadget says .... there is no 
"1" in "/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward" and according to the Network
Administrators Guide its disabled by default in linuxes and requires
fiddling with the kernel to get it "un"-disabled
