That's pretty true.  I am a little concerned about the machine catching
fire or clobbering all it's filesystems, but I guess that can be solved
by a removable-HD cradle.

Plan9 use a hierarchical storage management system to keep snapshots of
the filesystem as it was at midnight every night.  Their paper observes
that storage volumes and prices are improving at such a rate that with
an expandable filesystem storage increases faster than you can use
it.[0]
