unlikely, i think - connect messages via minicom look promising (LAP-M,
V.42bis, rahrah..). the modem's a spirit viper 28.8 external (not the
identical internal which has never functioned correctly for me) and,
other than switching with the winbox modem (not tested (yet)), passes
all diagnostics.

tested all applicable - /dev/modem (ln > /dev/cua1), dev/ttyS1,
/dev/cua1..

slhc & BSD-Comp are modules (compression loads at boot, no error
messages), ppp compiled in.. modules vers. is current, as are libc,
libg++, as is every fsckin' version-dependent package listed in bog
knows how many support docs.. 8~)
