Yes, it would. The host allows ssh logins on port 22, but of course

Again yes. The hostname reported by the "hostname" command goes via a
convoluted route that starts with a string held in the kernel. There
can only be one value report by the kernel, and currently I have left at
whatever the host sets it to. Unless it causes a problem, I don't see
the point of worrying about it.

Thanks, that would be great. From my point of view, the only concern is
"doesn't it work for the users". It is only temporary, and the
SysAdmin's can learn to put up with confusing command prompt for a short
while.
