does your sound card have creative compatibility? and if it doesn't and you 
don't want to go creative (expensive) look into the c-media 8738. i have 
one and so does the boyfriend and we are both very happy with linux 
support. it also now has support for how many speakers you have connected. 
(i have the 6 channel version, bf has the 4 channel) i paid ~$30 for mine 
about 2 months ago.
