[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and ]
[ Unix-related topics. Please observe the list's charter. ]
[ Worthwhile understanding: http://www.humbug.org.au/netiquette.html ]

Matthew,

First, be sure before setting up a system like this that UQSport is
permitted "onsell" it's bandwidth to the co-located server. UQSport has
(had?) a purchasing arrangement with the univerisity's Prentice centre,
rather than being a fundamental part of the network :) Secondly, UQSport
have certainly hired students for various IT jobs before. I worked on
their Delphi student database system for a while after the inital authors
left uni. When I was there the system administration its self was managed
by a long-serving contractor, so you might find yourself in competition
with the encumbant supplier. I did my best to convert him to linux at the
time, and he seemed interested... but I suspect never went on to the
implementation. The servers that were there seemed to be doing the jobs
they were allocated well enough not to go fiddling with the setup too much
and it was not my area of responsibility to make changes myself.

Benjamin.
