Another very simple solution is the PwdHash plugin, which exists for
Firefox, Chrome and Opera.  PwdHash replaces the password you enter with
a hash of the password and some site info.  So not only does it allow
you to use the same password for each site, the password it generates is
both large and random so it amplifies the password strength.  It was
created by Stanford Uni.  They also provide a web site that will create
the password for you, if you don't have access to the plugin.
