Bizarre.  Selinux has always been disabled by default in Debian, and
when disabled it in effect not there.

If it is a production server then you're game.  A fair portion of the
bug reports and fixed in stable kernels come from Debian.  Current
Debian kernels have the legendary stability I used to associate with
RedHat (past tense only because I don't us it now).  They are
unbelievably good.  Machines I have using them literally run for years.
Ben Hutchings is my personal hero - he deserves a medal.

As for different installs running faster - never underestimate the
benefit of the clean, tightly packed disk you get after a clean install.
