I hardly ever make any phone calls, I use Virgin prepaid mobile.  They
recently changed their plans, now you have to register what type of
plan you normally use on their web site.  I use the long life one,
lasts a year.  Think it comes in $49 and $99 versions now.  Likely also
a $29 one that lasts for six months.  I understand that if you top up
before the expiry date, the credits roll over.

Other companies might have similar plans, I've not shopped around at
all recently.
