[H-GEN] Smaller Android mobile phones

I'm looking at buying a lower spec mobile phone for the "missus", but lower
spec
mainly from the CPU/memory footprint. I still want it to either come with
v2.3.x or
be upgradable to 2.3.x. She also wants it to be physically smaller than my
S2.

I have looked at the spec for the Samsung Galaxy Gio. This seems OK. If
anyone
has specific knowledge as to why I should not touch this phone let me know.
I'm leaning toward a Samsung as it would allow us to share accessories, etc.

Daniel showed me his phone a few weeks/months ago and it looked about the
right
size and I seem to recall that it was running Gingerbread. Does anyone know
what
make/model it was?  Hello... Daniel?

...and NO!   just 'cos SteveJ has karked it I'm not feeling any more
sympathetic
towards the Apple camp.  iPhone === walled garden === jail. Steve has found
one
of the possible escape routes. One day I hope to see how far I can skip one
of those
things across a lake.
