head_victim is right.  DNS isn't working.  Well I guess that's obvious.
The check he gave you (ping mirror.aarnet.edu.au) will verify it.  The
ping will tell you whether it can resolve mirror.aarnet.edu.au, and if
it can than whether it can reach it.

If the ping works fine the only thing I can think of is you have a http
proxy set.

If it doesn't work, it's time to do some basic networking diagnosis.

I stated writing some instructions on how do to that, but it just goes
on and on.  Humbug does have an IRC channel: #humbug at
irc.humbug.org.au.  There are people on there most of the time,
including me at the moment.  There are more IRC client's than you can
point a pointed stick at, I use pidgin as it work with every other IM
protocol known to man as well.
