[H-GEN] Cannot login into Ubuntu 10.04 LTS after installing UberStudent in multiboot because of Gnome Power Manager's config defaults

Hi Russell and Daniel.

I followed both of your suggestions.

Russell, disk space seems not to be full but before installing UberStudent,
I tried creating a custom iso using a utility from Application Center which
did not work but I did not delete all the files.

check disk space: df

restart dpkg configuration: dpkg --configure -a

re-do configuration: ssu (sudo) dpkg-reconfigure gnome-power-manager

reinstall it: sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-power-manager

reinstall the desktop: sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-desktop

I get an error at sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-power-manager and
the terminal output (two different times) was:

/usr/bin/mandb: can't write to /var/cache/man/3547: No space left on device

/usr/bin/mandb: can't write to /var/cache/man/4445: No space left on device

Daniel,

I moved the home/cwomack/.gnome2 folder by doing the following in
UberStudent

cd /dev/sda2/home/cwomack

mv .gnome2 .gnome2-old

Thanks

Clarissa

I'm fairly out of touch with Ubuntu and Gnome so take what I say with a
grain of salt...

You could possibly fix this by removing your gnome configuration, which will
be rebuilt when you log in, though you may have to re-configure some
applications. So if you move (don't delete) your /home/[user name]/.gnome/
directory to somewhere else and then attempt to log in, it should create
fresh configuration.

If that doesn't work I'd try to reinstall gnome - sudo apt-get install
--reinstall ubuntu-desktop

To get to the command line from the login prompt you can start a "safe
session" or something from a menu at the login screen - or press ctrl + alt
+ F3 to get to a terminal. I haven't used Ubuntu in a while so I am not sure
of the exact steps to get a terminal from login screen.

check disk space: df

restart dpkg configuration: dpkg --configure -a

re-do configuration: ssu dpkg-reconfigure gnome-power-manager

reinstall it: sudo apt-get --reinstall install gnome-power-manager

reinstall the desktop: sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-desktop
