Perhaps that's the Party line, yes.  Practically speaking, "not possible"
means "not realistic for the average bloke with limited money, contacts and
knowhow, but a piece of cake for well financed adversaries", e.g. high-end
commercial pirates and release groups.  The video always shows up on
bittorrent and usenet, no matter what, which is fine by me.  All that
remains, for those who indulge, is to keep downloading without getting
caught.

Nowadays video copy protection is very hard to crack, although given enough
resources, anything is possible.  Rupert Murdoch, the horrible and
disgraceful man he is, had an axe to grind with a rival Pay TV company, so
he paid an Israeli company millions to reverse engineer their set top box
access cards and leak the plans on the Internet to damage their business.
Hard to defend against, because with millions of dollars, electron
microscopes, talented engineers, it was only a matter of time and money.
