The company I work for (Midson Net) specialises in Novell based
solutions. We do GroupWise which has cross platform clients and runs
on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server. I am working in South Brisbane right
now.

If management want a big-name solution comparable to Microsoft
Exchange that works in a heterogeneous environment then GroupWise is
what they want.

On another note all you really have to do is to buy an Enterprise
Linux distribution such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSE Linux
Enterprise Server or even (please no!) Ubuntu Server Edition and pair
it up with the business versions of a groupware suite such as Zafara
or Zimbra. Obviously you could piece together an Email solution using
software included in a distribution but you really can't beat a fully
integrated Groupware suite.

I use Zimbra at work and can recommend it.

You will almost certainly receive support better than Microsoft would
ever provide from Novell, Red Hat or perhaps even Canonical. There is
local people (such as Midson Net) who you can hire to help!
I don't know if there is any Ubuntu Certified Professionals in Brisbane...
