Thanks James for the update. I think that this may be a good thing.
It forces us to change our way of thinking. We have, for a long time,
believed that the rooms were always going be available. Now might be
good time to look at ways that we can reinvigorate the club. We need
more talks and lectures. We need to do more to include all tertiary
organisations and to get the word out that there is more than just
Micrsoft when it comes to computing. That puting all the eggs into
the one basket is never a good thing to do. As we all know I.E's
major bug caused a lot of problems and that's just the one MS picked
up. When the alternatives are cheap and easy then the only thing
stopping people from trying them is, as the Shawshank Redemption stated,
the "Institutionalisation" of software. This weeks meeting should be
about how we can spread the word about HUMBUG to get people interested
in not just MS's software but in different software. Diversity.
It's not a question of whether MS and it's software is bad it's a
question of there not being anything else out there is bad. It's time
that people stopped using software of the one and started using the
software of the many. It's about bug vs software warfare. So let's
start talking.

Subject: Room Bookings Update

Hi All,

Just thought I'd send a general update on where we are with Room
Bookings.

1. UQ ITS is currently unable to help us with room bookings due to a
policy change by the room bookings area. This apparently prevents them
from making room bookins on behalf of another organisation. Tomorrow
I'll be contacting UQ Room Bookings to see if there is some way to
book the rooms and have the fees waived (~$216 per meeting) and I'll
also be contacting Nick Tate Director of ITS to see if there is
anything he can do for us.

2. I've made preliminary contact with Jared Ring from the Faculty of
Science and Technology at QUT regarding the possibility of holding our
meetings at QUT instead of UQ. I've indicated to Jared that this is
preliminary and that we're hopeful of booking our room through UQ as
we have previously done. I figure it's best that we investigate all
our options given the current situation.

3. I am hopeful that I will be able to book a room at QUT Kelvin Grove
for this weekend. This will be a one off request, so that we don't
miss out on this fortnights meeting. It will be organised through the
School of Maths, Science and Technology Education (where I'm currently
employed). I should know whether this will happen sometime tomorrow
morning.

I'll try and keep you all informed as we progress with the situation.

Thanks
James
