Ubuntu has a VNC client installed by default. I'm not at my laptop at
the moment so I can't tell you exactly what it's listed as in the menu.
Your friend should easily be able to get a VNC server up and running on
her Mac. I have one on my Windows PC in case I need to do something on
it while I'm using my laptop in another part of the house.
