For anyone who doesn't know Rusty even by reputation, he's:
* the guy who established the tradition of rewriting the Linux
firewalling API every major release;
* a major contributor to wesnoth, with strong ties to the
transgender subcommunity;
* a Debian developer from Germany, who successfulled trolled the (then)
DPL into flaming him;
* the guy who started linux.conf.au but forgot to actually call it
linux.conf.au;
* a renowned filk hero with a mastery of both types of music:
country /and/ western;
* the guy who broke the tradition of rewriting the Linux firewalling
API every major release;
* the only linux.conf.au speaker to ever give three separate keynote
presentations simultaneously;
* the inaugural recipient of the Linus Torvalds Black Star For
Being Stupid award for his work on futexes;
* someone who once had a moustache;
* formerly a (the!) trivial patch monkey, who may yet have more to say
about monkeys.
He's also been doing a lot of work talking to politicians and legal
professionals about copyright and IP issues on Linux Australia's behalf
in recent years, if you happen to care about that...
(I believe we should also have some "DMCA" related petitions and such
for folks to look over and consider signing at the meeting too.)
Cheers,
aj
