Erm, yes, I meant to throw in a warning about reading the man pages first...
The other thing to note is that I believe that most modern drives do this
bad block mapping crap internally and hide it from the outside world. This
means that if you get to the point where you think about running badblocks
and friends it's time to chuck the drive in the bin and buy a new one. I
don't have any hard data to back up this belief though (and don't have the
desire to look it up, sorry), perhaps someone who has fiddled more with this
could either confirm or shoot me down in a blazing ball of fire.
