Ronald,
I've recently build a system based on the Asus A8N-SLI
"Premium" (Socket 939), which is based on the nforce-4 chipset.
Everything has worked flawlessly for me, using the 64 bit edition of
Ubuntu 5.10. Also, I have built a smaller system using a Gigabyte
K8NS nforce-3 board (socket 754), again with Ubuntu 5.10 it is
working fine, though only 32 bit, but the 64 bit live cd seemed to
work without any problems. S754 is much cheaper these days, but the
upgrade path is limited. If you are looking to upgrade to a dual core
cpu in the future, you'll have to get a S939 board.
Cheers,
Brendan
