Mice and mice drivers are sometimes quite fussy. They like to be able
to talk to one another at boot time. Some of the expensive digital
KVMs have circuitry in them that pretends to be a mouse to the computer
that doesn't have the real mouse switched to it for exactly this reason.

On the other hand, mechanical monitor switches will eventually have
their contacts grow dirty on you and introduce more and more video
noise.
