Also had problems with IBM drives... Hitachi ones aren't too bad

I guess what I'm trying to say is that >all< drive manufacturers have 
had their bad runs.

My suggestion is to use RAID whenever your data is worth keeping, and if 
possible use different manufacturers for each drive in the RAID. That 
way you can limit the chance of batch or manufacturing faults.
