G'day Raymond
I'm glad you asked this question.
I still have to keep a computer running for just one single Windows 98
software application
And would really [Really] like to not have this situation.
I would most interested to know what glitches you come across, after a
Linux VM Ware install.
Will you be running 98 se or XP under it?
Most blokes I spoke to [at Humbug] advised me to get a VM Ware Windows
version, as it was written for Windows users, to port Linux & apps to it.
But I felt that rather defeated the main purpose of what I was trying to do!
Interesting that the replies you have had so far run quite contrary to
this advice.
I had no major probs running Cross Over under Debian, or Xandros for
that matter, but it really only did MS Word and Excel reasonably well,
not seamlessly.
I found Open Office 1.1.2 actually performed most satisfactory on both
those o/s so I gave Cross Over the toss.
Some one said that Star Office was even better, but I've never spoken to
anyone who used it.
Furthermore Cross Over not all that good at reading/writing to a data
base, at least not the Starfish / Sidekick 98 style database.
Loop back to line 2!
cheers
Tony
