Ok I don't know much about it but you might want to consider:
1. How long a "plot" takes to come out.
2. How often it is used.
3. The cost of a half done plot.
4. Would a user be pissed that his plot sent just before the blackout 
was only half finished

As good a reason as any. I am not 100% up on UPS's but I think there are 
two basic designs.

1. Has battery's placed across the mains that kick in when the power 
goes out.
2. The output is drawn from the battery's which are constantly recharged 
by the mains.

The first will let most of the spike through, the second won't.
