I would recommend having a look at the Eclipse IDE  http://www.eclipse.org/


Eclipse is an open source IDE that is cross-platform and cross-language.
While no "company plugging intended", it is heavily back by IBM similar to
the Netsacpe/Mozilla model.

Having use it, it's bigger brother (WebSphere Studio Application Developer)
and many other Java IDE, I would rank it as one of the best IDE's that I
have used.
