Hi group
I have a networking issue that I'm hoping to get some help with. Configuration
as follows:
1 x Linux machine with Mandrake 9.0
1 x Windows 2000 Server machine
1 x Windows XP Pro machine
All are networked using a D-Link router (XP via wireless), I can ping
everything on the network from every other thing. I have shares set up on the
Linux machine, and I can mount dirs that are shared on the Windows 2000
Server machine. I can use Terminal Services and VNC from the linux box and
from either Windows box, but not *to* the linux box because it isn't
configured to accept connections at the moment. I have samba running on the
linux box.
Ok...
#1 When I browse to the linux shares from the Windows 2000 machine, I can read
and write to them without entering a username or password (they are the same
on each machine anyway). The username/password dialog appears, and I just
press enter. Everything is cool.
When i do the same thing from the XP machine, of course it insists on a
username/password (OK is greyed out) but none of the username/passwords that
I use will work. I can see the machine in the list, but can't access it.
Share permissions give rwx to everyone (scary practice, but an attempt to find
out what's going on).
I got into the users setup area in Mandrake Control Panel to see if there was
anything there that pointed to a solution, which leads to ...
#2 When I click Users in Mandrake Control Panel, I get the message "Cannot
lock user lib, file /etc/ptemp or /etc/gtmp exist" and sure enough it does.
I don't know if I should be removing these files or what before I proceed.
I've attempted to provide enough info without dribbling on too much.. :-)
Can anyone suggest where I should start debugging?
thanks a lot
David
